Amber is fossilised tree resin that has been washing up on Baltic beaches for thousands of years. For a child it is a real treasure that can be found with their own hands.
Where and when to look
It is best to walk along the waterline, especially after stronger wind, when the sea throws seaweed and small objects onto the shore. It pays to look carefully and patiently.
How to recognise it
- It is light, and in the hand it feels warmer than a stone.
- Its colour ranges from pale yellow to dark honey.
- It is often slightly translucent, and matt once dry.
